Dit ben ik

Mijn dromen en ambities

I have been working as a CFD engineer for now 11 years, I would like to give a new course to my career. My past experience has provided me the knowledge and skills in numerical simulations to successfully meet the challenges required in such position.

I performed numerical services for different departments within my company as well as for external clients. These numerical services were used to predict the hydrodynamic performances of propulsion systems such as propellers, ducted propellers and thrusters. These numerical services were applied as well to improve their hydrodynamic performances and understand the physical phenomena of new propulsion systems such as Energopac system and propeller boss cap fin.
My ambitions is to use my skills and competences in numerical simulations to find practical solutions to challenging problems. Through CFD it is possible to enhance any system by analysing the fluid dynamics and therefore to design a better system.

I worked in close collaboration with project engineers, designers and sales managers in their daily work with the aim of improving the hydrodynamic performance of propulsion systems by using CFD. I developed new CFD methods due to the upgrade of the commercial software and I was also responsible for the guidelines documentation and tools used for the hydrodynamic analysis .
I collaborated to the development of the new thrusters and tunnel thruster portfolio. CFD enhance the hydrodynamics of the thruster by the flow analysis of the different components of the thruster and can as well delay the cavitation on thruster. I performed as well Finite Element Analyses on tunnel thrusters in order to reduce vibration and to determine the natural frequency of the tunnel thruster. Also I performed structural analyses of frame used in the transport of a complete thruster unit.
I would like to continue working in the field of fluid dynamics and heat transfer. I will be happy to give more information during an interview.

Werkervaring

2003-09-2014: CFD expert at Wärtsilä in R&D Department.
◦ Perform CFD analyses in order to predict the hydrodynamic performance of propulsion
systems and to improve their capabilities. Support other departments in their daily
business.
◦ Implementation of new CFD methods to match the upgrade of the commercial software.
Development of tools in excel for the hydrodynamic analysis and responsible for the user
manuals for the new methods implemented. Development of schemes and way of working
for quality insurance.
◦ Perform numerical services for Propeller designers department and Sales department.
▪ Propellers open water performance
▪ Thrusters open water performance
▪ Energopac open water performance
▪ Wakefield prediction
◦ Support to the product development
▪ Collaboration to the development of the new thruster portfolio and tunnel thrusters
portfolio of Wärstilä. Apply CFD methods to enhance the fluid dynamic of the thruster
by using the flow analysis of the different components of the thruster and therefore
delay the cavitation and improve the efficiency.
▪ Optimization of the product: increasing the ship speed and insure the cavitation free of
the propulsion system; decreasing the fuel consumption by improving the efficiency of
the propulsion.
▪ Determination of possible gain in efficiency by using the Energopac system. Apply
CFD to raise the beneficial effect of the Energopac system by analysing the fluid
dynamic.
◦ Perform transient CFD analyses in order to determine the loads for pulling/pushing
thruster under steering angle. Transfer the resulting blade forces to structural analyst in
order to determine the stress.
◦ FEA analysis on tunnel thruster in order to reduce vibration. Determination of the natural
frequency of the tunnel thruster.
◦ Structural analysis of frame used in the transport of thruster unit. A thruster unit is used for
a research vessel of the University of Alaska Fairbank. The complete unit is moved from
Italy to Alaska and the frame is handled by two or four hoisting eyes.
• 1998-2003: PhD student at University of Twente for Flowserve.
◦ Improvement of the hydraulic performance of centrifugal pumps using blade profiling.
◦ Development of an in-house software to simulate sheet cavitation in centrifugal pumps.
◦ Numerical simulation method based on the potential-flow and free boundary models
• 1998 (5 months): Master student. Electrohydrodynamic convection of an insulating liquid
subjected to unipolar injection

Opleidingen
